The Evolution of Mind-Body in Action

Mind-Body in Action or MBA as I like to call it… is a result of my lifelong interest in physical fitness and personal development. The “body in action” component came fairly easily because as a high school and collage multi-sport athlete I enjoyed some success which provided a lot of motivation to continue as a citizen athlete. I’ve done more than my fair share of 10K runs, biathlons and marathons.

Back in 69, the Vietnam Era Army grabbed me out of Grad School (Chemistry & Math). When that was over, I soon found I had an aptitude for business but lacked some key knowledge and training. This is when I discovered Dale Carnegie, Napoleon Hill, and a host of others. I still remember going to a seminar that featured Dr. Wayne Dyer, Dr. Deepak Chopra, and Dr. Bernie Segal, all of whom were and still are at the forefront of educating the world about the power of the mind-body dynamic. In the early 90’s, Tony Robbins with his NLP concepts and personal development strategies gave the world concrete techniques that anyone could use to improve their life. Vague theory was out and do-it yourself self improvement was in.

I was motivated to do more and by 1992 was competing frequently in marathons and other events. Somehow, I was asked to speak to a local runners club on training and motivation. I prepped a small handout for that talk. Another opportunity to speak turned up and I added more material to my handout. So, in the course of several more talks and about a years’ time, I ended up with enough material for a book. What was missing was information on diet, but that showed up in the person of Christine, my wife to be, who just happened to be an RN with both a degree in Health Education and a certification in dietary planning. After a few more months research and development, Mind-Body in Action was published in 1994.

Now, you might think that all this would have been a great kickoff for a career of MBA seminars and speaking engagements. But, as they say, life got in the way. What you don’t know, is that all my MBA activity was done in the shadow of a thriving business career in the computer industry. I started several IT companies, which built thousands of PC’s, developed some software, installed all sorts of computer stuff and… had zero time for MBA. It was and is my personal philosophy.

There’s more to tell here, but in the interest of closing this out, let’s fast forward to the present where I’ve retired from the IT world, and am spending all my time developing and publishing “How to Do IT” videos on all sorts of topics including MBA subjects. I’m looking forward to adding new content to the MBA website. It’s amazing to see how much we have learned in the last 20 years about every aspect of diet, fitness, and the mind-body dynamic.

Best Wishes for Peace, Health and Prosperity in Your Life
